Avoid Orphanages: Please, consider avoiding any activity that supports orphanages. While it seems a worthwhile cause, the majority of international orphanages are privately run for profit and house kids (80%) that could be living with a surviving parent or extended family, but instead are kept at the orphanage for profit resulting from financial support of well-meaning religious organizations, volunteers and donors. Orphanages are outdated and a racket that exploits children and keeps them out of public wellness systems that would otherwise place them with loving families.
