Myth:  Hawaii Is Super Expensive

From low-cost to luxe, Hawaii has something to accommodate everyone's budget!

Recommendations to make Hawaii more budget friendly:

• Don't check a bag:  It's a casual island vacation so you'll only need one carry-on and one personal item per person... more than that and you've almost certainly overpacked
• Minimize eating out as it is the biggest essential Hawaii vacation expense
• Stay in a condo resort:
  • Buy groceries and prepare your own meals, snacks and drinks, and only eat out occasionally to still enjoy amazing Hawaiian cuisine
  • Grills are usually available to enjoy steaks, chicken, etc.
  • Washers & dryers are usually available on-site if not in the condo itself so you can pack light
  • Complimentary beach towels are usually provided so you don't need to pack/bring those items
• Shop at Costco, Walmart or other discount stores: 
  • Every major island has a Costco and we've found their prices to be basically the same as the Mainland except for meats, which run about $1 or $2 more per pound (Sam's Club is available on Oahu/Honolulu only)
  • Buy cold sandwich goods along with several items that can be easily thrown in the oven
  • Gas up your rental car at Costco, Walmart or other retailer with discounted fuel prices*

Good to Know about Hawaii

Flights​:

• About 6 hours from the US west coast
• Non-stop flights available from most major US airports and hubs
• Most return flights to the mainland are overnight, with a few exceptions​

Hawaii does NOT have:

• All-inclusive resorts
• Inter-island ferries (you must fly)
• Snakes
• Rabies:  All arriving dogs and cats must go through quarantine
